The “Why” and the “Tools” we use to measure employee happiness

Our approach to measuring employee happiness uses research and science to help us answer the question, “Do your employees feel good about coming to work?” Below, you’ll find research behind the “WHY” as well as useful tools to help you begin to measure your work culture.

The science behind happiness

Collaborating with the Industrial Organizational Psychology department at Colorado State University, we, together, spent over 1000 hours completing research to not only answer the question, “Do your employees feel good about coming to work?” but also to figure out how to measure it.  During our research we landed on 8 Critical Factors that help determine employee happiness.

Why we use “Happiness”

We run into skeptics all the time. We get questions about the terminology we use. “Why do you use happy?” “Why don’t you use engaged instead?” Here’s more on why we use the terms “HAPPY” and “FEEL GOOD” when we discuss and measure employee engagement and happiness.

The “23 Elephants in the Room” assessment

Learn what your TOP culture challenges are, out of 23. What category do they fall in? Is there a pattern? This useful assessment can give you a good idea of where you might need to focus your culture improving efforts.

The “1-10 Litmus Test”

Here’s a quick test we like to use when measuring employee happiness. Ask yourself, “On a scale of 1-10 how happy do I think our employees are?” Write your number down on sheet of paper. Then, click the button below.

Company Culture Survey and Audit

When measuring employee happiness, one question pops up often, “How do we change our culture?” Our answer to this? You change culture one strategic step at a time.

Our most extensive measurement tool, the Company Culture Survey and Audit, gives you both the data and the roadmap for the best next steps to employ meaningful, profitable culture change. And, it does it all while earning employee buy-in.

Certification and Certified Companies

To become a “Choose People Certified Company” an organization has to score 40 or higher on our Company Culture Audit which places them in the top 20% of organizations in the country for workplace culture.

Companies that show the seal of a “Happy Company in the Making” are committed to having an extraordinary workplace culture and are actively working towards becoming certified.
