Corporate Social Responsibility - Big Words, Why should I care?

Looking good - we all want to look good - personally, professionally, physically, even privately. We also want to feel good. We want to know we are doing good, contributing good - and then we'd like others to know about it - either because we want to look good, feel good and/or have others join us in the adventure.

Corporate Social Responsibility is a mix of all of these. A company wants to do the right thing - and they'd like the public to know about it. Seems reasonable enough.

And yet Corporate Social Responsibility is kind of like "integrity" - it should be a no brainer in the business world. But oftentimes it isn't. And so IT IS a big deal to commend those companies who go the extra mile, take the extra step, and oftentimes spend the extra money to do the right thing. They deserve the kudos and recognition whether they're doing the right thing for the environment, for their employees, and/or for their community.

Because it's not the norm - yet. And that's the goal. Eventually "CSR" will fall by the wayside of business promises like "quality" and "integrity" - those attributes that are requirements just to play the game of business.

But until then, we need to recognize real deal socially responsible companies and then support them with our consumer dollars. Because it's not easy these days to be the CSR company - why? Because their competitors aren't doing it - so the good news is that they have a competitive edge; the bad news is their competitor's product /service costs less because they're not playing by the same rules.

What will you buy? The cheap one? Or the right one?

Why the RIGHT one? Because that's the one that allows us all to look good, feel good and do good :)
